In Bali right now, something beautiful is happening. Go to any beach café, and you’ll see it. Young people, not just scrolling or snapping, but reading actual books. Paperbacks, hardcovers, novels flipped open under palm trees.
It’s not just a local trend. In the UK, bookshops like Waterstones are experiencing a real resurgence, especially among younger readers. Their sales have grown, and they’re opening new stores again, driven in part by movements like BookTok and a wider craving for real, tangible experiences. It turns out: people want books they can hold.
Here at PT Publishing KAR DON, we’ve seen this first-hand. Our book A Guide to Bali Dogs, for example, resonates deeply because it’s local and lovingly made. People are once again hungry for story.
Publishing is very much alive. And Bali is part of that revival.
